Head Coach Kelly Harchetts

Kelly Harchetts finished her 13th year as head coach of the Union College field hockey program in 2024. Harchetts also serves as an Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach at Union, working with many of the school's 26 varsity sports.

Harchetts is the seventh coach in program history, which began varsity play in 1975. During her first 13 seasons at the helm, Union has boasted 12 NFHCA All-Region selections and 32 All-Liberty League honorees, including at least one player in every season.

Under her watch, the Garnet Chargers had one of the best seasons in program history in 2024, posting a 14-6 record and tying for first place in the Liberty League with a 6-1 mark, the program's highest-ever conference finish. The team's 14 regular-season victories are tied for second-most ever in a season in program history and the six conference wins earned the team a home Liberty League Tournament game for the first time in program history. As a result, Harchetts and assistant coaches Alicia Aragosa and Katie Rich were named as the Liberty League Coaching Staff of the Year.

In addition to her staff's honor, sophomore Maddie Greco was named the program's first-ever Liberty League Offensive Player of the Year to lead four All-Conference selections, the most for the program since 2010 and tied for the second-most ever in a season. In addition, three Garnet Chargers - Greco and juniors Megan Dorsey and Sophie Brady - were named to the NFHCA All-Region teams, with Brady and Greco becoming the first pair of first-team teammates in program history.

Harchetts headed up the Liberty League Co-Coaching Staff of the Year in 2023 after leading Union to an 11-8 record (4-3 Liberty League) and the program's first conference tournament berth since 2010. The team reached the 11-win plateau for the second straight season in 2023, only the third time in program history that has been achieved, while the 11 wins are tied for fourth-most in a season in program history and the squad's four conference victories are tied for the most ever in a regular season.

Individually, first-year Maddie Greco was named the Liberty League Rookie of the Year to lead three All-Conference selections, and four different players earned conference Rookie of the Week accolades during the season. Greco also is the program's first rookie to earn All-Region recognition and she joined Megan Dorsey in doubling the number of All-Region underclassmen in program history.

Harchetts led Union to one of the best seasons in program history in 2022, with the team's 11 wins tying for the fourth-most in a season in program history. Union started the season with a six-game winning streak, outscoring opponents 25-6 on the way to the second-best start to a season ever. The team was also excellent on the home field, posting a 9-1 record at Frank Bailey Field to set a new program record for home wins in a single season. Individually, seniors Jill Bove and Emily Dawson both were named to the All-Liberty League first team and the NFHCA All-Region second team, making them the first teammates ever to earn All-Region honors in the same season and Union's first pair of All-Conference first-teamers in the same year since 2006.

Before coming to Union, Harchetts spent two seasons at Salisbury University in 2010 and 2011. During her tenure, Harchetts served as the head goalkeeping coach while the Gulls went a combined 34-6 with 15 All-Conference selections and 9 All-Region honorees. She previously served as an assistant coach and adjunct professor in the Physical Education department at William Paterson University from 2005-10 in addition to taking charge of the strength and conditioning program for the Pioneers. During her time at William Paterson, she guided the goalies to a pair of conference Goalie of the Year honors and one NFHCA first-team All-America selection.

A 2005 graduate of William Paterson, Harchetts was a captain for both the field hockey and softball programs. She played in the NFHCA North/South All Star Game and was a two-time All-South Atlantic Region first-team selection during her stellar career in goal, and she remains the school's all-time leader in career goals against average (0.96), save percentage (.853) and shutouts (18) as well as holding the top-two single-season goals against averages in program history. On the softball diamond, she was a member of two conference championship teams and played in the College World Series as a senior in 2005.

Harchetts was named the 2005 William Paterson University Student-Athlete of the Year and she received the Barone Award Recipient, awarded to the student demonstrating outstanding dedication and effort in athletics. She graduated from WPU in 2005 with a degree in exercise physiology and earned her Master of Science degree in applied health physiology from Salisbury in 2012.
